Suzuki Owners Club articles A starcom1 bike communications system was offered to the Suzuki Owners Club on a trial basis so that it could be independently tested by one of our members. Malcolm (tiny) Goodger arranged for me to take delivery of the unit. It was sent to me by Tecstar and plenty of advise and help was given to me by Mr. Tony Starling of Tecstar communications. The kit came with comprehensive instructions. The best place to fit it on my motor-cycle (GSXR1100WT) was in place of the tool roll holder (under the rear seat unit). Fitting was relatively easy, taking around 30 minutes or so. Volume and Vox controls were very easy to set up and only minor adjustments were needed after the initial set-up. Sound quality on the MP3 player that I attached to the unit was excellent (much better than expected). Wind noise was basically non-existent when in use. Mobile phone attachment was outstanding, sound quality coming through to me was 100% and at 60/70 MPH no wind or engine noise could be heard by the persons I was talking too (my wife commented at one time that she couldn’t even tell that I was on the move). During this test period, I contacted Mr. Tony Starling of Tecstar and asked him if he would consider donating this trial unit to our mopedathon raffle appeal in aid of “The Rob Vine Fund”, he was only to pleased to do this, and on auction to the Suzuki Owners Club it raised £100 towards the fund. Many thanks to Tecstar for letting us to try this unit out and for their generosity in allowing us to auction this unit off for charity. Frank Groves. S.O.C. Mem. No. 24397.
