FLT-01 Bike 12V power filter

Introduction

The power filter unit is designed to reduce/remove conducted electrical interference noise from the power supply. This applies to electrical noise generated by the bike ignition, alternator and pumps, (this noise will only be present when the bike engine is running).

Applications

1) Universal power filter, suitable for use with most bike power accessories e.g.
Bike radios, CBs, Audio systems, Navigation systems, cell/Mobile phones, etc..
2) StarCom1 / Advance power filter (plugs directly into StarCom1).
3) StarCom1 accessory power filter.

Specification

Max current: 3 AMPS
Max Volts: 15 Volts
Dimensions1¼" x ¾" x 1¾"
Inline fuse: 3A slow blow

Unit Installation

Installation with a StarCom1 system

Step 1. Locate a suitable point for power connection.
Step 2. Using a crimp connector (Crimp1) or solder joint, connect the fused power filter INPUT lead +ve which is the RED wire to a bike 12V supply.
Step 3. Using a crimp connector (Crimp2) or solder joint, connect the power lead -ve, which is the BLACK wire, to the bike 0V (negative) supply or to a suitable chassis ground point. Tape all joints to insulate electrically and protect from moisture.
Step 4. Connect the StarCom1

Step 5. Using the 10cm cable ties provided ensure that the fuse crimp connectors and the wiring are secured to the bike frame along the full cable at least every 15cm. You must ensure that the wire cannot fall or bend and foul or touch any moving parts. You must also ensure the wire will not be trapped or pinched in any way, for example by the seat. Only mount to the bike frame or bodywork and avoid all working parts including brake pipes, ignition cables, etc.

Installing with a StarCom1 system and a StarCom1 Accessory

Installation with a StarCom1 system and a StarCom1 Accessory

Power for an accessory can be taken from the StarCom power lead.

Step 1. Carefully separate the two wire close to the StarCom power plug providing 2cm wire length to allow crimp connection.
Step 2. Using a crimp connector (Crimp 3), connect the RED wire to the accessory  +12V (positive) supply wire.
Step 3. Using a crimp connector (Crimp4), connect the Black wire to the accessory 0V ground (negative) wire.

Step 4. Using the 10cm cable ties provided ensure that the crimp connectors and the wiring is secured to the bike frame along the full cable at least every 15cm. You must ensure that the wire cannot fall or bend and foul or touch any moving parts. You must also ensure the wire will not be trapped or pinched in any way, for example by the seat. Only mount to the bike frame or bodywork and avoid all working parts including brake pipes, ignition cables, etc.

Important fitting considerations

1)       DO NOT REVERSE CONNECT, The RED wire must be connected to 12V and the BLACK to 0V reverse connection will cause permanent damage to the filter.
2)       Ensure all wires are as short as possible.
3)       Do not locate the power filter, the StarCom1 unit or the accessory close to the bike ignition system.
4)       FLT-01 must only be used on a 12V DC system.
5)       Maximum current is 3 Amps, note StarCom1 consumes a maximum of 0.25 Amps.
